Outlook Connectivity Problems

Amrit

I have a problem with outlook on wireless.

I have a wireless network and 3 computers. The main computer is connected
through a cable to the router. THe other machine is wireless.

I am unable to connect to my emails from the wireless machine i get error
0x80042108 unable to connect to server. On the wired connecttion there is no
problem. DOes anyone know if this is a wireless issue or something to do
with outlook.

THe main machine does have Norton istalled and i have disabled email
scanning but i still get the same message on the wireless machine.

THanks in advance for your help.

No problem here connecting to a pop3/imap/exchange server across a wireless
connection. Any chance you have a 3rd party personal firewall* installed
that could be blocking the outgoing connection?

* You mentioned Norton and I immediately think that you might be running
Norton Internet Security which does contain a personal firewall program that
would need to be configured to allow Outlook to work.

I have checked windows firewall and it is switched. The machine that is
having the problems is running AVG 7.5 but the problem still persists and i
am unable to connect to the mail server.

HELP!

Windows XP's firewall isn't statefull so it wouldn't be stopping the
connection. I do know that AVG offers the ability to scan e-mail. Rather
than disable it, have you tried uninstalling it and then trying Outlook?

Another thing to try is to see if you can ping your ISP/Company mail server.
How to:

* Start a command prompt window (start > run > cmd.exe > ok button)
* Type: ping name.of.mail.server

Do you get 4 good responses back?

Another good cross check method is to see if Outlook Express can connect to
your ISP/Company's mail server. (Note: Assuming that you are working with a
POP3/IMAP account)
