Outlook connector is forcing me to upgrade, but won't cooperate.

I have a gmail and two msn email accounts hooked up with Outlook 2007. I am
running Windows 7 Professional which I installed a month ago. gmail hooked
up without a hitch. Using Connector I was finally able to hook up my msn
accounts (I am not an expert computer user). Today when I start Outlook I
get the message:

"To continue accessing your mail using Microsoft Office Outlook, you must
upgrade to the latest version of Outlook connector."

I click Upgrade Now. I follow the steps and it looks like it is installing.
But the next time I start Outlook the same message comes up. I repeated
this three times. I restarted my computer. Then I uninstalled Connector and
downloaded from the MS website and installed. I still get the same message
when I start Outlook.

Also, frequently when asked to enter my password for my msn accounts it is
not recognized.

The annoying thing about this is that the message that flashes up to
upgrade , if you accept and download , it retrieves version 12 of the outlook
connector .. which will always be out of date because the latest version is
14.

It didn't for me. It downloaded and installed (without problem) the latest
V14 installation.

Microsoft is aware of the problem and turned off the automatic updat
feature until they figure out what went wrong - if you haven't update
yet, it shouldn't force you to right now.

This method should avoid problems:

1. Close outlook - very important!
2. Uninstall the older version (not required, but i prefer to do this
3. Download and install the new connector yoursel
4. Restart Outlook.
(for others who might find this post - the connector can be downloade

I uninstalled Outlook connector and downloaded version 14 of Outlook Hotmail
Connector 64-bit. When I try to install it I receive two messages. The
first says, “The 32-bit version of Microsoft Outlook is installed. Download
and install the 32-bit version of Microsoft Outlook Hotmail Connector." The
second says, "The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing
this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code
is 2869." I restarted Windows 7 and downloaded it again using a better
connection from your link and I still get the same two messages.

I just did and installed it and it seems to be working fine. So, now I'm
just curious. Why can't I run the 64 bit program since I have a 64 bit
machine?

Because you're using the 32 bit Office on that 64 bit machine, which is just
fine.

So I am making the assumption that if I run the 64 bit program, I would have
to uninstall the 32 bit Microsoft Office Professional and reinstall the 64
bit Microsoft Office Professional, right?

Thanks, for your help!

When running Windows 7 64 bit, you can install and use either Office 2010 64
bit or 32 bit and either should work. Office 64 bit, however, doesn't play
well with add-ins yet. If you don't have add-ins, you should be able to use
the 64 bit versions of Windows, Office, and the Outlook Connector and all
should work. So the combos are WIndows 64 bit, Office 64 bit, Outlook
Connector 64 bit or Windows 64 bit, Office 32 bit, and Outlook Connector 32
bit.
