Outlook Connector makes Outlook 2003 useless!

N

nefch

I just installed the latest version of Outlook Connector (12.0.4518.1058) and
now Outlook 2003 can not receive or send messages anymore! Pressing F9 does
nothing at all!

When I click "Tools | E-Mail Accounts..." I get an error message: "The
operation failed due to a registry or installation problem. Restart Outlook
and try again. If the problem persists, please reinstall."

What the heck is going on?

Have you tried uninstalling it then rebooting and then re-install.

What happens.

It is possible that you have a horked install of the OL Connector.

I tried everything. I uninstalled Connector, I rebooted, I installed it
again, ... Nothing helps. This was a perfectly working installation of
Outllok 2003 and now Outlook is dead. How can this happen? Microsoft, did you
ever actually test this piece of software?

I have same problem. I have tried: Repair, Reinstall over top, and
complete removal and reinstall of Outlook. No difference. Please
help.

Hello. I am sorry to hear that you are having trouble with Microsoft Office
Outlook 2003 and the Outlook Connector for Windows Live Hotmail.

In order to investigate this issue, I have a few questions for you:
1. Did you install this version (12.0.4518.1058) over a previous version of
the connector? If so, was it the recent beta (12.0.4518.1047) or the
previous 1.8 release?
2. Can you describe the Outlook profile you use with the connector? How
many accounts are in that profile? Are the non-connector accounts POP, IMAP
or Exchange accounts?
3. When you attempted to repair and re-install, did you attempt to do so
with the connector or with Outlook?
4. Have you attempted creating a new profile and adding your accounts to
that profile?

We will do our best to get to the bottom of this issue and your assistance
and patience is very much appreciated.

Hello. I am sorry to hear that you are also having trouble with Microsoft

Would you mind answering the same questions I posted to nefch in the other
branch of this thread?

Hi Jared,

1. A previous version of Outlook Connector was not installed.
2. Two POP3 accounts.
3. I tried to uninstall and reinstall the Connector. I also tried to make a
repair install of Outlook.
4. I can't create a new profile. In the 'Options | Mail Setup' tab I can't
do anything! Clicking 'E-mail Accounts..." and 'Data Files...' does nothing
at all. I can open the 'Send/Receive Groups' dialog, but clicking 'New..' or
'Edit...' does nothing.

The only way to make Outlook work again is to delete the profile information
in the registry. I removed the entire key HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging Subsystem\Profiles\Outlook and started
from scratch.

I do not know how it might help others, but the solution Christof used with
the HKCU registry deletion helped me fix my F9/Send-Receive that was
destroyed by a wizard offered by Network Solutions webmail to add an email
account to Outlook -- so it is indexed to this thread, the offending product
was Trueswitch's TrueSwitchEC.

Make sure your .pst file(s) and the removed registry key entries are backed
up in case something goes wrong.

This solution is not for the weak-of-heart, but after the registry removal
all my add-ins and email rules were preserved. I had to enter every email
account again and point received mail to the old .pst file, but all my email,
contacts, tasks, and calendar were restored. Oh, and I had to put my email
signature back in.

It appears to be perfect now, if I find out other issues I will post them.
