Outlook Connector not working in Outlook 2007

Brenda

I fixed my Hotmail with Outlook Connector, then went to my sister's house to
fix hers. She just bought Outlook 2007 (standalone, not as part of Office)
and had her Hotmail account set up using http until the September 1, 2009 DAV
migration.

She downloaded the Outlook Connector, but she does not get a setup prompt to
set up her hotmail account, even after closing and reopening Outlook several
times.

We called support for MS Outlook and tried uninstalling Word 2003 and Excel
2003 as we were instructed to do, but none of that helped.

Outlook was closed when she attempted to install Outlook Connector. She
followed the instructions to download and install it, and then Outlook
automatically opened. There was no prompt to configure the Outlook Connector.
There is no "Outlook Connector" on the menu at the top of Outlook. I had her
close and open Outlook several times. It did not magically appear.

I had her check Control Panel/Add Remove Programs, and Outlook Connector is
listed there, but it does not appear to "really" be installed.

She has Outlook 2007 SP2 and all updates since.

We tried uninstalling Outlook Connector, rebooting, and then reinstalling it
with Norton Anti-Virus and Firewall disabled and with the Windows Firewall
on. We still did not get a prompt to set up the Outlook Connector and Outlook
Connector is still not on the menu.

If we look at the COM Add-Ins, we find that " . . .
system\msmapi\1033\msncon32.dll" is not loaded. A runtime error occurred
during the loading of the COM add-in.

My sister is angry and almost ready to return MS Outlook for a refund.

Can someone please tell me what to do to get Outlook Connector working in
Outlook 2007 so my sister can use it to send and receive her Hotmail?

No

The 3 choices for adding an account are Internet E-mail (includes http,
which does not work since the DAV migration), MS Exchange and Other (which
has MS Office Outlook Connector). I chose the last one and got the following
error message:

Outlook Connector Store Service
Cannot expand folder. The set of folders cannot be opened. An unexpected
error has occurred. MAPI was unable to load the information service
msncon.dll. Be sure the service is correctly installed and configured.

Thanks,

Brenda

so there is definitely something wrong with the installation.

I don't think word and excel 2003 are an issue - but did she have a suite
with outlook 2003 in it? if so, she could return outlook 2007 if she wants
as the connector works with 2003 and the experience is better with one
version of office.

Does outlook 2007 work for POP3? If she tries hotmail using pop3 make sure
to set outlook to leave mail on the server before downloading any (although
it can be put back once we get the connector working). It's in the More
Settings, Advanced tab.

Yes, I believe something is wrong with the installation of Outlook Connector.
Could several upgrades of Norton have anything to do with it as PA Bear
suggested?

versions of Word 2003 and Excel 2003. She just bought Outlook 2007 last

Did you say you know the Connector works with Outlook 2003? I have Office
2003 with Outlook, and I had no trouble setting up the Connector to work with
my Hotmail account. Does this mean that you know there is a problem with
Outlook 2007 and Connector, that we are not the only ones having problems?

After I read your last post, we went to your web site and she set up her
Hotmail using POP3 and was able to receive her e-mails off the server. After
Outlook finishes downloading all the messages, I will get her to send me an
e-mail to see if Send works. She did receive the test e-mail she sent when
she set up the account.

What's next?

I have exactly the same problem - my laptop loaded the connector properly but
my desktop did not. The difference is that the "COM Add-in for Microsoft
Outlook Connector" is inactive on the desktop and shows a runtime loading
error. On the laptop it is shown to be active. I am running XP (SP3) and
Office 2007 (SP2) and both machines are fully up to date. The desktop is
running McAfee security that comes with MSN Premium. Interestingly, the
laptop is running Symantec Endpoint Protection but I did not need to turn
anything off in order to install the connector. The new Outlook Connector
menu appeared in Outlook and through that menu I loaded up three msn email
accounts without any issues. This menu does not appear on the desktop version
of Outlook, presumably because the add-in is inactive. The installation ended
with the same successful installation message on both machines.

To be frank, all of the responses I have found on this issue in this forum
are rather basic - reboot, reinstall, etc. I and the original poster have
done all these basic things to no avail. But as soon as it gets more complex,
it seems like the "buck is passed" to some other support center and the
process starts all over again. In one thread when it got to the stage of
"contact the Connector supplier" the response was go do that. I thought this
was a Microsoft Support Center and Microsoft is the supplier of the connector
- what am I missing?. It looks to me like Microsoft has released an immature
piece of software prematurely and left us users in the lurch as we cannot
continue to use the old approach that has worked fine for several years.

Got It!

Go into Outlook. When it doesn't recognize your hotmail account, choose to
set up manually. It will then give you the option to select the Outlook
Connector. Voila!
