Outlook Connector on free Hotmail account

G

guitardude

I use outloook 2007 on vista ultimate sp1. I would like to be able to use
outlook to send and receive all of my hotmail emails. I tried the outlook
connector but it never actually connects to my account. if I click the
connector toolbar it shows mail, calendar, and contacts all with the same
status of "Connecting" although it never actually does. I know that the
calendar function is only available to subscribers. I called ms support and
the guy told me I would have to have a paid account to use the connector. To
my understanding, the connector is supposed to allow free accounts to
download and send messages using outlook. And if I had a paid account I
would just use the POP3 support to get my messages and not some plugin. On
the other hand, I would just use windows live mail (which is what I am doing
as a workaround right now) but I really like having all of my organizational
stuff in one program thus I think that outlook rocks. what I don't get is
why outlook uses DAV instead of DeltaSync? Outlook is a program you buy and
it is using an older protocol than a free program. it just doesn't make
sense to me. [now coming off of soap box] is there something I am missing on
getting my hotmail into outlook? when ever I create an account (using the
connector) it shows a new tree for my hotmail account but all of the folders
are empty and the status as I mentioned earlier never changes. Any help
would be much appreciated.

well my email address is at hotmail.com but its really the live hotmail. I
did the upgrade thing long ago. I followed those instructions the first time
that I set it up and it still never connects. I am wondering if it might be
a firewall issue. thanks for your suggestion mary.

yes, it is a firewall or something not related to the account - it will work
with free accounts.

I'd do a very quick test with the FW off - it could be something else. Are
you using Outlook for other accts? If not, make sure it is enabled in the
firewall.

How odd! I am able to use Outlook 07 to check, send, and receive Hotmail
without the connector.

let us know how it works in oh, 9 days. Until then you can use HTTP to
access hotmail but on June 30 they are disabling HTTP access - only
DeltaSync will work and you need the connector for that.

hey I don’t know if any of you are still watching this thread or not but I
am sorry it has taken me so long to get around to trying it with the

should I use the connector in a separate outlook data file maybe?

Hey. I am having this same problem. I downloaded Outlook connector almost a
year ago to work with my Outlook 2003 to connect my free Live Hotmail
account. All worked great until about 6 mos ago, it quit connecting. I
deleted my mailbox and reset up the account and it worked for another 3 mos
and quit again. It pretends it is downloading but doesn't synch. No new mail.
I deleted and reconnected my account again, and it worked for 2 days and
quit. What the heck? Any fixes for this?
