Outlook Contact at bottom of book

After importing my contact list I have found all my contacts are at the end
of the Address book. The only way I can bring them to the top, is by sorting
them by the last name first..which I would rather have the first name first.
I've tried everything else.

Version of Outlook? Is this in the address book you see when you press the
To button?

In Outlook 2007, go to File, Data file management, Outlook Address book tab.
double click in the outlook address book and check the show names by order.
In older version, go through tools, account settings.
