Outlook Contacts missing after synchronising with Dell Axim PDA

My PC is running Windows Vista with Outlook 2007. MY Dell Axim is running
Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition. I used to sync it with my old PC running
Windows 98 SE.
I'm running windows mobile device center on my PC and synched the PC and the
Dell Axim.
Everything seemed to work fine but I notice it has removed many of my
Outlook contacts on the PC and added a lot of old contacts offf the Axim.

Don't understand why it would remove any contacts off the PC Outlook 2007?

How can I easily restore them and insure it does not remove them again when
I sync?

Depends on the partnership configuration.

How can I easily restore them and insure it does not remove them again
when
I sync?

Changes made by the sync process are permanent. If you don't keep backups,
then they're gone.
