Outlook contacts show business fax info in address book

When I access my contact list through the "To" button of a
new email, duplicate names appear for individuals in my
contact list. One name will add an email address when
added to the list of recipients, and the other will return
a business fax number. The contact list entries are not
duplicated within the list itself, they exist only in the
one list, and upon editing the contact, all data is in the
proper location on the form.

The duplicates also appear with their fax#/email address
data in the "email type" field when I access the
Outlook "address book" directly through the button on the
tool bar.

What is going on? How can I alter the entries so that
these duplicates don't pop up?

The standard behavior for the Outlook Address book is to display all
electronic addresses (both fax and e-mail). That behavior cannot be changed.
The only way to prevent the display of fax numbers is to store them in a
different field or to disguise them (e.g., precede them with an alpha
character) so that Outlook won't recognize them as phone numbers.
There are also a number of utilities available that can do this for you
automatically. Some are listed here:
