Syncing and importing can change the properties of the Contact Record,
such
as the ENTRYID MAPI property, which can then prevent the email address
from
resolving or appearing in the address book view. Recreating the Contact
will
repair that and other properties.
You repair the address book in Word by resetting the Outlook Address
Book.
Unfortunately, Outlook 2007 contains a bug that prevents you from doing
so.
The only way to fix that view is to create a new Outlook profile from
scratch.

I have the latest software and I keep it up to date. I'm curious why
syncing
corrupts the data?
Is ther anyway to remove the duplicates in word address book that do
not
show up in my contacts book?

I would just look to make sure you are using the latest version of
your
sync
software. I would also make good and frequent backups of your data so
you
can more easily repair the damage syncing does to your data.

I did resolve the problem by just reentering the email address of all
contacts that had missing email address. I just retyped the email
address
that was there and saved it. However I now have duplicates in the
word
address book but not in my main contacts.I am using office 2007
standard
i had a feeling it had to do with syncing the iphone with contacts.
Should
I avoid syncing contacts to my phone?--

Tried re-entering Contacts means what? You never do this from the
address
book view.
The contacts that do not appear have a corrupt or unresolved
electronic
address. Syncing or importing Contacts are the two most common
causes
for
this.
