outlook could not create work file

every time i open outlook i get this message ''outlook could not create work
file, check temp environment variable'' then program is not working. Please

echo %temp%
echo %tmp%

What do you see?

here is what I see, after your suggestion
C:\DOCUME~1\ERICRE~1\LOCALS~1\Temp

Can you open that folder in Wndows Explorer? Have you tried emptying that
folder?

I deleted file D42E~Temp
Thanks for your help. Is there anywhere else I can go to check on the error
message in outlook: "could not create the work file: Check temp environment
variable".

I just ran the echo cmd you mentioned above and this time it looks like this:
