Outlook crashes on exit - new behaviour

I run Outlook 2007. While trying to eradicate a STOP 0x0000008e error, which
was plaguing me, I uninstalled Kaspersky Internet Security 7 (KIS7).

For 3 days I have been free of that STOP error BUT Outlook 2007 always now
crashes when I exit it by either the file/exit command or clicking the cross
in the upper right-hand corner. I'm told that Outlook has "stopped working"
- true, I stopped it. I click cancel and that warning dialog disappears.

KIS7 had a spam filter plug-in, which has now gone, and I suspect that
uninstalling KIS7 has produced the error.

I have been to the 'Trust Center' and disabled all the plug-ins that I'm
actually able to, including the exchange server one it originally identified
as the culprit - still the crash happens.

The event messages in connection with these are typically:

Faulting application OUTLOOK.EXE, version 12.0.6212.1000, time stamp
0x46e03e45, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, time stamp 0x00000000,
exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x0970c0cc, process id 0x5ec,
application start time 0x01c846ed6d638ee2.

Faulting application OUTLOOK.EXE, version 12.0.6212.1000, time stamp

exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x0945c0cc, process id 0xae8,

Can anyone suggest a cure? At one level it's a minor inconvenience but I
suspect that if left unsorted I'll end up with a corrupted pst file or
something.

Thanks.

Steve,

I used to experience this and found out at different times it was either
Google Desktop or CA AntiSpam that was causing Outlook to crash.

Don't know if you have either installed but just a thought.

Thanks Sam.

No, I don't have either of these installed. I use Mailwasher Pro as my
anti-spam tool; Kaspersky interfered with this so I reverted to AVG Pro which
has always been ok with this, as has Outlook.

Any other addins? It's possibly related to this known bug and the wrong app
is blamed. From http://www.slipstick.com/emo/2007/up071129.htm#2
"This crashes Outlook due to the threading. The stack is read by Watson and
whatever is at the bottom of the stack gets blamed for the crash, usually
MSVBVM60 but also Kernel32 on Vista. The next time Outlook starts up,
whichever add-in was listed lowest in the stack is blamed for the crash."

Diane,

Interesting. I don't have iTunes but maybe a plug-in has been compromised.
I've disabled all the ones I can but I get a message with some saying that
they can't be disabled (I think the message says something about the registry
entry (I'm not at my hoem PC to check this) - these are mainly but not
exclusively MS add-ins.

Thanks.

I'm familiar with that annoying message. :)

Try starting outlook with the /safe:3 switch - this will start it with the
add-ins disabled.

Thanks, Diane. I'll give this a try when I get back from work tomorrow.

Diane,

Interesting. when I start Outlook with "outlook.exe /safe:3" it closes
without crashing but it still won't allow me to access the MS add-ins. I was
able to turn off the Sperry Software ones with their own controls and Outlook
continued to crash.

If I click 'Remove' in Trust Center/add-ins on aprticular add-in I worry
that I'll lose it permanently.

Thanks.
