Outlook Creates backups of default profiles!

This has been going on long enough and i need to find out what is happening
here. Sometimes my users are being asked which profile thay want to use when
sending an email. I logon as them, go into the MAIL icon in the Control
panel and select 'SHOW PROFILES' and there's a ton of them in there?!!! why
is this happening??!!

BACKUP OF DEFAULT OUTLOOK PROFILE
BACKUP2 OF DEFAULT OUTLOOK PROFILE
BACKUP3 OF DEFAULT OUTLOOK PROFILE
BACKUP4 OF DEFAULT OUTLOOK PROFILE
you get the picture... then at the bottom it lists the first/main
DEFAULT OUTLOOK PROFILE.

This has been happening for sometime now. i have chk'd about a dozen users
i confident that all my users are getting the same.

Any ideas.

Odd, I'm not aware of anything built-in to Outlook that does this. Does the
site run any type of Outlook profile generator?

Outlook version? Are you using a .prf file to enforce a particular default
profile through a login script? Outlook, by default, makes a backup whenever
a new profile is created with a .prf file. To suppress that, add this
statement to the [General] section in the .prf file:

BackupProfile=No

thank-you for responding.
I should've probably explained that this is a citrix environment. although,
the office installation on the terminal service Citrix Server was a straight
install by me, however the IT Manager has now mentioned that he used the
customer installation wizard and I think it may be something in that, causing
my headaches here.
So i guess i shift my questions to this:
All clients are OL2002.
Would that .prf file have been created from running the custom installation
wizard? There is one in every user's profile on my citrix server, so i think
we have hit the nail on the head here. if this is the case then it's either
edit ALL of these idivivual profiles or run the custom installtion wizard
again?

thanks again.

Yes, it is possible and common to deploy a PRF file with the CIW. However,
that PRF file would be processed just one time per user. I think you need to
look elsewhere -- maybe at the login script -- to see if a PRF file is being
invoked repeatedly after installation. If so and if that's a necessary part
of your operation, then you can edit it to add the line I suggested earlier.

The backup copies of the profiles that already exist just cause clutter and
do no harm. One approach is to just ignore them.
