Outlook Default Language changes when replying to e-mails

I searched and searched trying to find a resolution to a problem that
was driving me nuts. Having now solved it I thought I'd let anyone else
with the same issue know about the fix.

Even though my default language was set to English UK, all my replies
to Outlook mail went out in English US. Even new messages decided that
the subject bar was always to be in English US even though the body was
in English UK. No amount of changing language settings in templates,
options etc made any difference, and every system and office default
was set to English UK. Running Windows XP, with Office XP.

Cause. Running office XP and a more recent version of an Office add
on, in my case Visio 2003.

Solution: Uninstall later version(s) of office components (eg Visio).
Then uninstall office XP. Then re-install office XP with a complete
install. To be sure of this bit, I manually went through everything
ticking run from computer or similar (can't remember the exact phrase).
Most importantly, in the office tools section, ensure the Microsoft
Office XP language tools option is loaded.

Once this had been done, I went start, All programs, Microsoft office
tools, microsoft office XP language settings and then added English UK,
set the default language to English UK, and then, with a great sense of
anticipation, removed English US. At this point the only available
language in the right hand window was English UK, which was slightly
greyed out to indicate that it was the default language.

Having done this, I checked Outlook and it was all working correctly.

I then installed Visio 2003, and did a custom installation, again
selecting every component I needed to run from the PC, BUT NOT the
Microsoft office 2003 language settings. These were completely left out
of the install.

Once this had been done, everything worked normally, and as I only have
English UK available, it does not even show the language in the bottom
of the screen when writing or replying to mails.

It would appear that the later Office component took over the language
settings in Office XP, which then ignored it's own settings, but there
was no way to get to the later component's language settings. Sounds
daft, but true.

Hope this helps, it really drove me wild with frustration, and I'm sure
the same could be applied to any language being overidden by English
US.

Do please post a reply if anyone finds this useful.
