Outlook Defaults

When on the internet, when I click on a contact to email someone, I get the
message "Could not perform this operation because the default mail clien t is
not properly installed."

I've gone to "Set your default programs" but Microsoft Outlook is not there
(it used to be but has disappeared). I've gone to "Set program access and
computer defaults" and clicked on "custom" and then checked Microsoft Outlook
as the default; however, the "enable access to this program" is gray and I
cannot check it, so I still can't get MS Outlook into the default program
list.

Have you performed a repair install on Office?

Here's something else. When in Outlook, Tools, Other Tab, "Make Outlook the
default program . . ." is checked. There is a "Default Programs" button
directly under this, but it doesn't work! It goes nowhere -- just opens an
empty window. Another glitch having to do with Default Programs! Hope you
can help!

What version of Outlook? Perhaps it's time to uninstall Office, remove its
registry keys, and reinstall.

If I pay the $50 for MS telephone help, would that eliminate my having to
uninstall and reinstall? Or is this going to be inevitable?

Thank you for your help.

I am using Outlook 2007 (MS Office Home Premium 2007) and Vista (32 bit).
I know how to install,
if this is what I need to do, but don't know how to remove its registry
keys.

Use regedit.
If I have to do this, is there someway for me to save my email setups,
contacts, etc?

I don't know what you mean my "email setups", but none of the data you have
in your folders should be lost. It would be a good idea to make a copy of
your PST, however, just in case.

I have no way of knowing that. If you've purchased Office 2007 within the
last 90 days, your support incident will be free.
