Outlook 'Delay'

James

Client: Outlook 2000 sp3 running on Windows XP sp1
Server: Exchange 2000 sp

Problem: If user opens a new message and clicks 'To' box, button stays pressed for up to 20 seconds, with hourglass. If user enters partial name on 'To' line and does Alt+K or 'check names' function, even though GAL is checking names first, it takes up to 20 seconds, with hourglass in the meantime. Names finally resolve

This 'slowness' appears to the user as if Outlook has locked. All other users are not experiencing problems such as this, and they all hit the same Exchange server for their mail. This user's mailbox can be pulled up on 3 other machines, with no problems at all. It's just 'slow' like this when under her profile, and on her machine. Profile is simple/basic (Exchange server and Outlook Address Book --- not even a pst or ost for that matter!). Should be speedy, but these delays are severe

I've done ping tests, internet browsing tests, changed her port on the switch she connects into, forced full duplex 100 (from auto) on her NIC settings ---- I cannot find any kind of connectivity/speed problem outside of the Outlook problem (ie., web browsing is fast, file and printers being accessed via server are fast, ping tests are also quite speedy/fine). Yes, I've checked the 'Instant Messaging' as a possible issue but that's inapplicable because the user is running Outlook 2000 and inherently doesn't even have that 'option' in Outlook

I'm just short of blowing away her profile and/or re-installing Windows/Office and starting with a clean slate for this poor user because I'm out of ideas for what to check/test next. There are no errors related to that user's mailbox and/or the information store on the server, and other users are not seeing this problem. Thanks for any ideas. Please email me along with replies here; appreciated
