outlook deleted email

One of our users started having a problem that I can't find the cause of. We
have Exchange Server SP2 and Outlook 2003 with the latest patches.

When user deletes an email while in unread messages folder, the item
replies to the sender with a blank email. Does anyone know how to remedy this?

Perhaps the sender has requested a delivery receipt. Deleting an unread
message will cause a "deleted without being read" receipt to be returned if
the recipient's Outlook allows receipts.
