Outlook demands the presence of OE

Hi,
I use Outlook to manage my contacs and mobile phone numbers on my
smartphone. I recently scrapped OE because I dont use it. Now when
trying to synchronise my mobile phone with the Outlook contacts via
ActiveSunc I get the error message to pay attention at the result of the
synchronisation. Then I try to open Outlook to look for this difficulty
and get the error message:

cannot start outlook . Outlook require MS OE 4 or greater. You can
install running IE5Setup.exe from the IE5 folder on your CD or through
the windows update website.

Then I look for a recent OE version that I can download. When I try to
install it it says that my IE is more recent than the OE version
(whoever might understand the mixing of versions between OE and IE). So,
this doesn't work either as my IE is automatically updated.

What a mess!

Can anyone tell me how I can make Outlook run again so that I can
refresh my contact data ? You need Outlook Express to run Outlook ???
What a world!

This starts to become an endless story. In fact, I found the exe files
of OE and of outlook. Now starting OE via the shortcut I get another
error message (o what a funny world > ) that Mantispm.exe did not
initialise well. And that I should stop it. What I did.
Now I start Outlook again, as OE is in fact on my system. So, Outlokk
should find all it needs. And I get the same error message as in the
beginning: OE is missing.

Oh, I forgot, I use Win XP Home SP2.

Thanks for this help. I backuped the registry, and scanned with
sfc/scannow - but nothing changed ! Same error messages as before. What
about Mantispm.exe? Where can I get a new copy? Can I deinstall and
reinstall it ?
