Outlook Desktop Alert Not Working

Just recently my desktop alert stopped working. It was working fine, and then
just decided to stop! I have all the settings checked in the advanced email
options settings and I get the noise & the little envelope in the tray, but
no 'pop up' desktop alert.

I've tried to detect and repair Outlook and that didn't do anything.

Any ideas?

Should I just uninstall and reinstall? If so, how do I do this so that all
my emails are backed up somewhere as I need them!

The desktop alert will not work with any emails that you move using rules.
It will only alert you to new mail not touched by a rule.
