Outlook Distribution Lists & Shared Fax

I have been using Microsoft Shared Fax locally and it has been working great.
The problem I ran into is we created a shared contact list in the public
folders part of exchange so everyone can use the same vendors etc. When I
imported the contacts from excel they did not throw a +1 in front of our
local area code. I created a "distribution list" and now all of the
contacts show a +1 in front of the area code. Now the faxes in the
distribution lists will not go through. Well the fax will fax everyone that
does not have the +1 and will error out on the new contacts. Has anyone ran
across this before. I can't get it to fax long distance by using the dialing
rules aspect of the wizard. Any ideas? Thank you in advance for your help. -

Examine your dialing rules.
International format will force the Fax Service to process dialing rules.

Thank you for the tip Russ, unfortunatly I have the check box checked for
dial as entered. I did figure something out that I believe to be the
problem. If I use the shared fax and add people individually it does not add
the +1. If I create a distribution list and add the distribution list
everyone within the lists automatically adds +1. I thought perhaps it was a
public folders quirk, but this is true if you create a distribution list
inside your contacts as well? Any thoughts? Once again thank you for your

The option to automatically add the country code is specified in Outlook's
dialing options (Contacts > Actions > Call Contact > New Call... > Dialing
options)

Russ, Thank you, I believe that might work. Now the question is: Will I have
to do that for all 150+ of my vendor contacts, or does it apply to all once
you create the dialing rule? Thanks again for your help. - Eric

Not following your question. The option to add the country code will only
apply to Contacts created after you enable the option.

I apologize, I should have tried it before I responded to your answer. Once
I enabled the option it worked for all contacts... BUT if you try to create a
distribution list of those vendors and used their fax number (to send batch
faxes through Microsoft Shared Fax) it STILL adds the +1 in front of each
number ie... the contact fax number shows as (719)555-5555 but when added to
a distribution list it shows as +1 (719) 555-5555. If I use the shared fax
and add the contacts individually it works because it does not add the +1,
BUT if I add the distribution list it adds the +1 to all contacts and the fax
server does not send the fax. Try creating a distribution list with some of
your current contacts fax numbers and see if you get the +1??? Once again,
