Outlook does not install

I download trial version of Microsoft Office - Standard suite. Word, Excel
and Powerpoint download OK - except Outlook. My operating system is Windows
XP Professional with Service pack 2. Why doesn't Outlook install?

I only have Outlook Express. If this the problem, and I uninstall, do I lose
all my emails on file? I currently run Microsoft Office XP Professional with
Frontpage. I looked for Outlook in Add/Remove Programs (only thing showed up
was security updates for Outlook 2002) and Search Files but came back empty.
Is Outlook hidden somewhere?

If you installed Office XP, then it's likely you installed Outlook as part of
Office. Click Start>Programs>Microsoft Office. I'll bet "Microsoft Office
Outlook" appears in the list.

It's not there also. Not sure why. It seems like day 1 never used it.
Thanks in advance.

If you select "Change" for Microsoft Office, then "Add or Remove Features",
are you saying Outlook doesn't appear?

From the "Add or Remofe Features" Outlook does appear along with the whole
list of Microsoft Office XP Professional Suite, but Outlook is the only one
that has a red "x" in front of it, and caption "not available".

I was able to upgrade from Office XP Pro to Office 2003 with no problem.
Both office suites existed side by side in my system, which is Windows 2000
SP4. I was able to install Outlook 2003 over XP and then delete the entire
Office XP suite.

You can install multiple versions of Office products EXCEPT Outlook.

And you clicked that icon and changed it to "Run from my computer"?

Yes, tried that..it asks to reload from CD. I can't seem to locate it in the
original cpu box-as it was bundled with other software. I checked the rest
of the suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and FrontPage. They are all
2002 versions and licensed to me, so I did register the products. If the
2002 Outlook did not install anyway, why won't 2007 version install in it's
place? In this case, do I have to purge the entire suite in order to install
Outlook 2007? Sorry for the long text.

While you say that no prior version of Outlook was installed, for some reason
the new installation detected something that made it think Outlook was alreday
there.

If you don't have the installation CD, how did you install the other Office
products?

Try uninstalling Office XP and then use the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility
to make sure all traces of Office XP are removed.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301 . Then try to reinstall Office 2007.

-Uninstalled Office XP; used Windows Installer Cleanup Utility: no traces of
Office XP found.
-Reinstalled Office 2007 -given 4 choices: Add/Remove; Repair; Remove;
Convert
-Selected Add/Remove Features: List of MO Suite shown, but "Outlook" has
red "X", hit "Continue"; Message says "successful"
-Checked program list -Outlook still not installed.
-Reinstalled Office 2007 again; similar "Outlook" has red "X" again.
-This time selected: "Repair"; Message says "successful", need to reboot
-did that.
-Checked program listing -Outlook still not installed.

Question: Is this downloaded Office 2007 trial version now a corrupted
file? Do I uninstall this also? If so, can I then download again another
Office 2007 as a replacement?

No where do you say you clicked that red X and selected "Run from my computer"
before clicking Continue.

Brian, it's working! Thanks very much for your assistance. Sorry, I messed
up with the "Run from my computer" part. My thanks to DL and DaffyD whom
also spent some time on this. I Appreciate this folks!
