outlook does not recognise an exported .pst file

I exported my contacts as a .pst file (as instructed in
HELP) to move them to another computer. This did not work
at all! When I tried to import them into the other
computer (at my new job), using the same operating system,
service pack, and outlook version (2003), it says that it
is not a personal folders file. This also happened with my
e-mail messages.

Does anyone know how to get outlook to recognise a file
that was exported by the same version on another computer?

I have tried to change the extension to .doc, .txt, .csv;
nothing works...

Thanks!

The *.pst file is stored on the hd, and read only flag is off?
Dont import, File/Open/Data File browse to location
BTW the pst stores all mail and contacts data.

I'm not surprised. Never export/import if you dfon't need to. If you want
to transfer just your Contacts, do this: Open a new PST (File>New>Outlook
Data File). Copy the Contacts folder to the new PST. Right-click the new
PST and choose Close. Stop Outlook.

Copy the new PST to some transfer medium like CD or move it to the other PC
by way of a network. If you use a CD, put it in the other PC, copy the PST
to hard drive and remove the read-only attribute. Start Outlook. Click
File>Open>Outlook Data File, browse to the copied PST , select it, and click
OK. You now have access to its contents. Select its Calendar folder (it
and Deleted Items will be the only folders). Select all the items in the
folder with CTRL-A and then copy them to the main Calendar in that Outlook.
Once done, close the copied PST and you're done.
