Outlook doesn't connect to POP3/SMTP servers when using WiFi

I am unable to connect to any POP3/SMTP services with Outlook 2003 when using
a WiFi adapter. When connected via the computers Ethernet connection, it
works fine. I've deleted and recreated the default profile and all mail
server accounts. I've tried different versions of Outlook (2000 and 2003) as
well as different WiFi adapters. I've disabled the Windows Firewall and
removed the Symantics Virus Protection. Nothing seems to work! Outlook
attempts to connect and says it cannot contact the POP3 (or SMTP) server; the
error code given is 0x80042108.

Any thoughts on how to fix this??

One thought is that your WiFi connection is not using the same ISP as your
wired connection. When I use WiFi, there's often one-half dozen or more
WiFi networks available, some of which are naively unprotected. If I were
to accidentally get one of those connections instead of my own hotspot, my
mail would not work because it's not my same ISP.

I am using a public "hotspot" WiFi connection. I've another computer using
the same WiFi hotspot and its SMTP/POP works fine with Outlook. So I'm
guessing it's not the ISP. Even though I've disabled the firewall, it acts
like the mail ports are being blocked. Is it possible there's some "hidden"
firewall running? I've not been able to find one in add/remove programs...

Then on one you may be authenticating to the outgoing server and on the
other you're not.
