We are a New Zealand web hosting company and since MS Word update KB917334
our clients are experiencing a problem sending HTML e-mail messages with
Outlook and Outlook Express while using Word as their e-mail editor.
Attempts to send e-mail is either being blocked (connection to port 25
refused) or sending with a subsequent warning that a winmail.dat virus has
been found in the e-mail. No virus is present on any of these systems. If
the same e-mail is sent as plain text or the use of Word as the e-mail editor
is discontinued the problem is resolved.
Many of our client’s as well as our own e-mail can no longer be sent in the
HTML format as it is blocked or intercepted with a warning by the Mailscanner
program on our server.
We’ve noted this same problem being discussed on several Internet forums in
the past few days. Has anyone here experienced this issue?
