outlook e-mail slow to open google

my outlook e-mail (all types including those with attachments) is very slow
to open and when i close them they cause the program to freeze and cause an
error. This is for outlook 2003. Also excel is very slow to open. Have
defragged, virus scanned, adaware, spybot, and repaired office several times.
