Outlook Editor Won't Send

When I click New | Mail Message. Word opens and I can
enter all info in the provided fields to send a message.
When I try to enter text in the body, the cursor moves
but nothing is actually typing. Can't figure it out.
Please Help.
P.S. the background is also window-paned.

When in the body, click the font color icon on the formatting toolbar,
change the color.
Most likely set to white.
Change to Black, etc....
