Outlook emails appearing as read when they are not.

For a number of weeks now, some emails are being shown as having been read
i.e. no longer in bold, when they haven’t been. Consequently, I’ve missed a
couple of important things.

It’s only a few of them and it only happens once in a while – always
annoying & difficult to track down intermittent faults, I know. I’ve
actually *seen* emails going from Unread to Read - when I’m clicking on one
to open it, the one above will mark itself as having been read.

Do you have the Reading Pane enabled? Your Reading Pane settings can do
what you describe. Moreover, if you have any mail-scanning add-ins (like
antivirus or -spam), they can cause messages to be marked as read as well.

I do! And only just started doing so, too. I'll take it off and keep my
fingers crossed. The annoying thing is that it doesn't happen all the time &
so impossible to reproduce at will.
