Hello,

One of my users is having a problem where his emails are being marked as
'read' (messages getting unbolded) after a couple of minutes. It's only
happening to some of his emails. He has the option turned off on his preview
pane setting... so that cannot be the cause as to why it's marked as read.
We are using Outlook 2002 connecting to an exchange server. He is the only
one who is having this issue. How can we check to make sure no one is
reading his emails? Has anyone come across something like this? Any advice
would be appreciated. Thanks.

Getting desperate!!!

Often if you highlight (often unintentionally) the email details (ie. date
received, subject etc), it marks the email as read.

Does he have a Smartphone or Blackberry? A number of wireless carriers
provide email services that will collect email from a personal/business
email account and forward it to a wireless device. One of the folks I work
with had one of these and experienced exactly the same problem - a new
email would appear and would be mysteriously marked "Read" some minutes
later. It turns out that our Exchange Server was marking them read when the
wireless service came in and collected new email.

Hi Hal,
Thanks for the reply. That makes a lot of sense. We do use Blackberries at
our company. I would have to check with the user to make sure he has one.
Thanks again.

That appears to be an issue with the Blackberry software. Ask your vendor
for a solution.
