Outlook Error After Closing

I have a computer running Windows XP Home and Microsoft Office 2003. When I
close Microsoft Outlook it comes up with a message saying it has “encountered
a problem and needs to closeâ€. The problem is this message is displayed
after Outlook is closed.

You have a 3rd party Outlook add-in installed that isn't handling things
gracefully. Might start reviewing what addins are listed at:

Tools > Options > Other tab > Advanced Options button > Addin Manager

Tools > Options > Other tab > Advanced Options button > COM Addins

Note: Some addins can be installed and will not be listed in the user
interface. This is normal as the vendor intention is that the end user
can't unload the addin by accident. An example of this would be security
solutions (e.g. antivirus) that integrate with Outlook to scan items.

Perfect - I found an addin in Addin Manager for AVG antivirus and turned it
off - no more problem. AVG's email scanner is still indicated as being on, so
I presume that turning off the addin doesn't kill the antivirus program.

Thank you

It doesn't kill the AV program, but to truly fix the problem, you should
uninstall AVG, then do a custom re-install leaving out any/all email
scanning. Email scanning is redundant, it does nothing but create problems
where none exist, and your system is fully protected without it, provided
you keep AVG's resident file system scanner up to date.
