I can not receive emails on Outlook (after installing SP 2!!!). I get Outlook
error: Task Receiving error 0x800CCC0F The connection to the server was
interrupted.
I turned off AV and Firewall, no change. All setting SMTP, POP3 have been
checked (no changes have been made to it after SP 2 installation, or prior to
it).

Does anybody know the solution to this proble? I appreciate the help - email
me please: (e-mail address removed)

Rick

Rick,
I had a similar problem, long before I installed SP2.
I was able to use a web based mail reader and get the "BAD" message.

virus scan enabled and error 0x800ccc0f after a long wait

virus scan not enabled and error 0x8004210a after a long wait
My outlook now works fine.

FWIW, YMMV

I called Microsoft and they said::::::::

PROBLEM:

Unable to download some e-mails through a POP3 client, (Outlook or Outlook
Express). The client hangs until it times out.

CAUSE:

The messages that are not downloadable do not contain a proper POP3Tail, or
termination sequence "<CRLF>.<CRLF>" as per RFC 1939. So, the client never
sees the termination sequence and therefore cannot continue to download
other messages.

RESOLUTION:

Using REGEDT32, add a Dword value to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\POP3SVC\Parameters\Chec
kPop3Tail

Set the value to "1".

Thank you Jim, I will give it a try.

Just curious how this could have started - one day it all worked and the
next day it does not .... did you ever find out why?

I appreciate the help!

Hate those people that write these programs ....

Do you suggest scanning the entire drive to find it?

Rick,
The microsoft fix involves a change to the registry, not a file.
If you are not familar with editing the registry this might be a good time
to ask for help.
Were you able to get to your mail using a web based interface?

Hello Jim,

just got power and internet back after the Hurrican shut me down for a few
days.

I can get my email via a webased interface - how do I locate the 'bad' file?

As to the registry, I added the folder with the Dword value set to 1 (not
sure I did it right). Had to create the folder POP3SVC, was that correct?

Thanks for your help!
Rick
