Outlook.exe uses 100% - Outlook 2003

I've read the other posts on this issue but don't think I've seen an answer
for mine. Every now and then (and I can't figure out what precipitates this)
my computer slows to a crawl. When I open task manager I can see that
outlook.exe is using 100% of my CPU. If I close Outlook normally,
Outlook.exe stays in the processor window with the same memory charge, but
the CPU usage drops to 0.

I routinely rebuild this laptop (I'm an IT consultant, it doesn't take me
long) and just did a few days ago. Updated EZ Armour anti-V and there is not
spyware, not strange processes running (only 21 processes at idle) so I don't
think it's virus or spayware related.

Any ideas?

because you aren't minimizing OL but are just tabbing to other windows.

That's exactly what I do. I leave Outlook, and any other program up on the
desktop. Never heard that one before. And it doesn't look like MS considers
this a problem. I wish they'd fix that. Seems like a real handicap in the
multi-tasking thing that Windows is all about.

I'm sure they're working on it.

We'll see if that solved the Cpu usage. Now I've got the problem back that
made me decide it was time to rebuild. For no reason at all, I get an error
report that needs to close down Outlook. Got so tired of it I disabled error
reporting. Given the fact that I reformatted and started from scratch less
than a week ago and now it's back already, I'm blaming this on Outlook 03.
Has this been a buggy program?

Not that I've seen, at all. Do you have Office 2003 SP1 installed? Did you
try disabling addins, or creating a new profile?

I did disable the Capurra settings. Can I disable Exchange Extensions
Property Pages? If that doesn't work I could try a new profile. But I got a
new profile just a few days ago when I rebuilt.

Well, my company finally got their VN to work with SP2, so I downloaded that,
it completely screwed me up so I had to rebuild yet again. This time I made
a completely new profile, then imported all my data from the previous .pst.
So far so good. No crashing and no runaway CPU usage. One of the things I
noted was that my previous .pst was in the old Outlook 97-00 format.

Next time, don't import. Just reuse the same PST. Importing loses/changes
data.

Hmmmm...is that why the fonts in my notes went screwy and....is there a way
to change the fonts in all existing notes back to what I had?

I don't think fonts would be affected by an import.

I haven't seen a fix for this yet. Has anyone found one? We just moved to
Exchange and this is happening to users company wide and we have no idea how
to stop it. The user ends up having to reboot their PC.

AFAIK, there's no fix yet. Simply train your users in how to click on the
minimize button.
