Outlook Express 5.02 to Entourage 2004

Steve

I have a friend who has an old Mac with Outlook Express 5.02. He is
running OS 9 on a 6500 and has been experiencing periodic crashes with
OE 5.02 and IE 5.0x. I have tried to trash the preferences and other
tricks in OS 9 to fix the problem with no results. I would reinstall
the
software but it is no longer available. I want to migrate him to
entourage, but it doesn't recognize the messages file. I am pretty mac
savy but haven't used OS 9 in over two years. Can I install OE 5.06, be
able to read the OE 5.02 message file, and export it out to Entourage?
Any suggestions out
there.
Thanks in advance

Has he tried to rebuild his database? Hold Option key when opening to start
rebuild process.

If the file is corrupt, a newer version of OE probably won't be able to
import it either. The only way to know is to try. Entourage imports OE files
and I don't think it requires the latest version of OE. I'm guessing his
message file is corrupt.

If this does not work and he can still open his copy of OE, then he can
export his contacts under File in the menu bar. To get his messages out,
drag each folder to the desktop as MBOX files. These can be dragged into any
email application.
