outlook express 6/norton anti-virus conflict

I have a question tthat I know must have been asked
before. I have outlook express 6 and norton anti-virus.
If I have the e-mail scanning of the norton turned on, OE6
will open but not receive mail. In order to receive mail I
have to turn off both the incoming and outgoing scanning.
I am a little gun shy about turning off my e-mail
scanning, as I just finished having to reformat my
computer with a year old back-up to get rid of about 8
(yes, count them, 8) viruses received from probabaly a
combination of internet and e-mail encounters. Surely
there has to be a fix for this! Please help!

you could try an outlook express ng, this is an outlook ng, different app.
or symantec site support
I would say however, that norton problems often require you to uninstall
nav, completely remove, then a clean reinstall, to cure.
