Outlook Express 6

Dean

I get this message when I try and read in Mail in Outlook Express 6:
An unknown error has occurred. Account: 'mail.beyondbb.com', Server:
'mail.beyondbb.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error
Number: 0x800C0133
I can still send mail but not receive. Also...my inbox got deleted with over
200 emails. I have tried disabling Norton email scanning and that didn't
help. Thank you for any help on this problem!!

This newsgroup is for support of Outlook
97/98/2000/2002/2003/2007 from the Office suite of products. Outlook
Express is actually a separate program despite the similar name.

For help with your OE questions, try an OE newsgroup such as
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress (for OE 6), or
an OE help website such as http://insideOE.tomsterdam.com. If you're
accessing the Microsoft newsgroups through the MS Product Support
Services "Community Newsgroups" web interface, click
http://www.microsoft.com/communitie...px?dg=microsoft.public.outlookexpress.general
Good luck!

you can resolved this problem by doing this below:

First take your outlook express complete backup in safe place.

1. After this create a new folder in OE.
2. move yor all mails of Inbos folder to the new folder which u just ceated.
3. after moving your all mails to new folder close your OE.
4. Go to your OE Data location. eg. c:\Documents and
Settings\administrator\local Settings\microsoft\Identeties\outloom
express\........by default like this path cantains OE mails.
5. Delete Inbox.dbx folder.

and now open your OE and you will see new inbox folder will be created and
now you can move yor all old mails from new folder to inbox folder.

This happened becouse your inbox.dbx folder got corrupted. now problem
should be resolved.

Prem Soni....thanks for your response...I tried to find the OE data location
and couldn't. I tried searching for inbox.dbx to delete and no such file. I'm
at a loss to figure this out.

Do you have Norton Anti-Virus installed?

When I was using Outlook Express ver 6, I repeatedly had the same problem
and it had nothing to do with Outlook Express. It was caused by Norton 360, a
terrible Anti-Virus application which turned off Auto Protect on a regular
basis. As soon as I uninstalled Norton 360 and downloaded a different
Anti-Virus application [Kaspersky], Outlook Express started working normally.

I'm not sure why Dean, but I think it has something to do with the
Anti-Virus application scanning email. When Auto Protect is turned off,
obviously it cannot scan incoming email for viruses.

Thanks Robert T...I appreciate the response. What puzzles me is that OE was
running fine with Norton Anti-virus until just this week.

I don't know if we have the same problem, but allow me to make a couple of
comments. Outlook Express was running fine for years and then I started
having problems after upgrading to Norton 360. Whenever I had problems with
Norton 360, Outlook Express wouldn't work and I would see that error message.

After I uninstalled Norton 360 and switched to Kaspersky, Outlook Express
worked perfectly.

Having said that, OE is several years old and hasn't been upgraded for a
long time. I just downloaded the successor to OE, which is called Windows
Live. I've only been using it for 5 days, but so far I'm impressed. Here are
some advantages.

1. It's online so you can access your email anywhere you have Internet access.
2. It's very colorful and makes reading/composing email a little easier.
3. If you have Yahoo or GMail, you can download it in Windows Live mail.
4. I'm not sure, but I think your messages are stored online, which once
again means you can read old mail stored in folders if you have Internet
access.

Glad I could help and I'm sure you'll like Windows Live. One other point I
forgot to mention. The Network Engineer on my job advised that since Outlook
Expess is so old and hasn't been udpated in years, it very vulnerable to
hackers. Therefore, it seems as if Windows Live is probably a safe product.
