Outlook Express Access To: <microsoft.public.mac.office.word>

Rafael Montserrat

I use <microsoft.public.mac.office.word> via Outlook Express, but I've
lost the connection.

In trying to create a fake email address (as per Dayo's suggestion) to
eliminate spam, I've lost the 'Newsgroups' yellow folder to the left
of the main window — the setup that came with Outlook Express from the
beginning above 'Directories'. That's where I accessed the long list
of Microsoft newsgroups and chose "word for mac". Now I only get:
"Would you like to download the list of newsgroups from this server?".
Then I either get a 'boink' error message, or if I've altered some
things it starts downloading but never arrives at anything to
download. It just keeps the barber pole turning.

I need to know how to reestablish those newsgroup folders (or just the
primary folder in order to scan the list of Microsoft newsgroups) so
I can access the newsgroup in Outlook Express

Here's the information I put into the news>edit account>account
settings. I really don't know what I'm doing on this one.

Account name: microsoft.public
Email account: "Microsoft Newsgroups... "
organization: microsoft
news server: microsoft.public.com

I didn't get to the newsgroups on Outlook Express.

organization: microsoft
news server: microsoft.public.com

I didn't get to the newsgroups on Outlook Express.

1. Account name: the usual name is "Microsoft News Server" but I guess you
can call it whatever you want.

2. Email account: should be the name of a POP mail account you made that has
the following settings :

Name: any name (your real name is best so we know you're you)
E-mail address: a false email address
Receiving mail fields: nothing at all in any of them
SMTP server: your real SMTP server of your usual ISP, including
Authentication in Advanced Sending Options: if your ISP requires it. Since
you can't do "Same as receiving" (since you have no receiving password),
enter your real Account ID (achilleus) and your real password if you need
this.

3. organization (i.e. YOUR company): don't pretend to be from Microsoft. You
might be blocked as the sender of pseudo-Microsoft spam. Just leave it
blank.

4. news server: The correct address is: msnews.microsoft.com

That's why you're not getting here. You have the wrong address for the news
server. Probably your other settings are OK, but that's the crucial one.
