outlook express disconnects after receiving e-mail

After connecting to the internet via SBC DSL and opening
outlook express, if we have e-mail it will down and then
it disconnects and the message "Basic Connection
Unavailable"> If we have no e-mail the same thing
happens after a few seconds. Can you please help?
