Outlook Express files to Microsoft Outlook

L

Lucabug

I have backed up all my mail folders onto a flash drive from Outlook Express.
I am now trying to put them into Micorsoft Outlook 2003.

When I try to import them it tells me :

The Mail Folder could not be opened. If another application is using this
file, please close it and try again.

All the back up files end in dbx Fore example Inbox.dbx etc etc

I have saved them all in a file together and put them on my new computer on
the C:

Please tell me what to do and PLEASE BE AWARE THAT I AM NOT A TECHIE!!! It
needs to be really simple for me to understand.

Please Help

thx

This is not a one step approach. You'll need to have a working Outlook
Express configuration with your OE files first.
Then configure Outlook with your mail account.
Then go back to OE and use the export function to get your OE mails into
Outlook.

Note that if your new computer can with Vista, then you first need to
configure Windows Mail with your OE files (as Windows Mail replaced OE).

For more information about how to reconfigure OE with your mailbox files you
can ask in an Outlook Express newsgroup;

Good Luck!

I'm having the same problem...and another. Now when I try to import, the
import task does not ask for location of files, but goes straight to finish
saying it didn't find any files to import. Reinstalling the software didn't
help.
I'm concerned that the process of exporting and importing might put new
dates on all the mail. Should I be concerned?

You're importing from where to where?
There is no need to import anything. First get OE to work again with your
files and then use its export function to get it into Outlook.
If you do hat, then you don't have to be concerned about dates at all.
