Outlook Express Newsgroup Folders

I appears that when I synchonize newsgroups the previous
messages that have been saved to may newsgroup folders are
automatically purged. The options on my maintenace tab to
newgroup folders have the property of deleting items
disabled. What other parameters can I effect to be sure
that my newsgroup items are never purged?
