Outlook Express suddenly slow to send messages

Hi there

I'd be very grateful for any help on a minor annoyance, having spent 4
or 5 hours searching the web, Groups & Microsoft Support without any
luck.

Until recently, Outlook Express 6 would both send & receive messages
almost instantaneously (unless attachments were involved). I
installed IE7 & WMP11 a few days ago, and now when sending even the
shortest message, OE shows "Connecting" for exactly 30 seconds before
sending the message, which it then does with no problem.

Odd, because opening OE, checking & receiving mail are as fast as
before. I've tried sending messages from webmail & there's no delay,
so it seems an OE issue. Have tried disenabling e-mail scanning (AVG
Free, up to date), disenabling the phishing filter, compacting all e-
mail folders offline, & nothing helps ...

Am using ZoneAlarm (Free) & can't see that it's causing any problem.
All security patches from Microsoft are installed (& all patches that
could be relevant to what's on my PC). Have run quick scans with Ad-
aware, SuperAntiSpyware & Windows Defender: no problems.

Enabling/disabling Messenger (via Admin Tools/Services/Messenger)
doesn't seem to make any difference. It's currently set to
"Automatic".

Windows XP Home Edition with SP2, AMD Sempron 3400 running at 1.8ghz,
512mb RAM, on a 6 month old Dell Dimension C521.

Not a big deal really, but OE used to send like greased lightning.
May not be down to IE7, but it's the main change I've made lately,
apart from getting the PC clock to synchronize with Internet Time.

Thanks in advance !

Hi there

Until recently, Outlook Express 6

This newsgroup is for support of Outlook
97/98/2000/2002/2003/2007 from the Office suite of products. Outlook
Express is actually a separate program despite the similar name.

For help with your OE questions, try an OE newsgroup such as
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress (for OE 6), or
an OE help website such as http://insideOE.tomsterdam.com. If you're
accessing the Microsoft newsgroups through the MS Product Support
Services "Community Newsgroups" web interface, click
http://www.microsoft.com/communitie...px?dg=microsoft.public.outlookexpress.general
Good luck!
