There has never been a public beta for Office for Mac before, and I
doubt there ever will be. Sorry!

Thanks Diane for the link. I hadn't read the blog in a while. I read
the user experience and for me with Microsoft now its a wait and see
as I am not that impressed with Office any longer. I looked at the
photo of I guess it was word with the ribbon and thought yuk. People
think this is great. It looks like it uses a ton of screen real
estate, too many options etc. I'll stick with Pages but I'll look at
it for sure when it comes out.

What I'm most interested in is what they do when they switch to
Outlook. I'm praying they keep the specific Entourage functionality of
links and Projects. I know Outlook has categories. So they can
implement the Outlook interface which is nice but I'd hate to loose
some of the valuable aspects of Entourage that keep me with the
product. They definitely need a new file system which I know they've
alluded to delivering plus more Mac compatible capability and
interface. Yet, with Microsoft I know they can so easily mess things
up these days. Honestly and I've suggested this to Apple add an
Entourage like capability to iWork, charge more for this version and
I'd be there in a heartbeat.

Microsoft's just giving up over a year ago on trying to resolve sync
services left a real sour taste in my mouth. I can appreciate they
might need Apple's help but I'm sure that would have been there if
they had put some effort into it. My discussions with Apple are
they're kind of pretty sour on Microsoft and almost feel they've built
a product for the Mac, which tons of us rely on, which is so non Mac
like. I've used it for years so I know how to use the product well but
even I find its become very cumbersome and not fun to work with
anymore. That's why I use iWork for everything except info mgt. I
stick with Entourage with remorse as I need its power. The one thing
about Microsoft, they can build a powerful product but its gotten to
be way too much. That screen shot I just saw; well totally unimpressed.

The Ribbon will be optional. YOu can toggle it on/off.
