Outlook for Macintosh 8.2.2 Small Business Server Edition

Does anyone know anything about this animal, or know where I could find out
about it? I'm trying to help someone 1000 miles away configure it and I'm
having trouble.

My specific question is, is it possible to configure this program to receive
mail from 2 accounts, one a POP account and the other an SBS 2000 Microsoft
Exchange Server.

Thanks for any and all help you can provide.

Hi Kevin!

Outlook for Mac can only connect to an Exchange server. It does not
support POP, SMTP or IMAP. It only supports MAPI.

Outlook Express for Mac does support POP, SMTP and IMAP but not MAPI. If
your Exchange server has any of these protocols enabled then you could
use that as your application.

Hope this helps! bill

Bill,

Thanks for your help so far, maybe you can help me with the next step.
We're going to move him to another server that's not on his LAN. On the PC
we add an entry to his HOSTS/LMHOSTS files so when we enter the server name
in Outlook it knows where to go.

Is this done the same way on the Mac? Where are those files? Are they
updated the same way?

Thanks again for your help.

Hi Kevin!

Here's some instructions about creating a Hosts file for a Mac that I
copied from a past message:

Use Simpletext to edit the Hosts file. Do not use Mac OS X's TextEdit
because you may save the file using Rich Text formatting.

The Hosts file contains two lines:

serverName.papermagic.com A 192.168.0.1
serverName CNAME serverName.papermagic.com

Three items appear on each line and each line is separated by a tab. The
lines are separated by a return.

Replace the fully qualified domain name with yours. If you don't have a
fully qualified domain name, you can use something like

serverName.yourCompany.local

Replace the IP address with the IP address of your Exchange server.
Replace the server name with your Exchange server's name.

Save this file as "Hosts" (without the quotes) into the System Folder.

Open the TCP/IP Control Panel and select Edit --> User Mode. Change to
Advanced mode.

Notice the button in the upper right hand corner of the TCP/IP Control
Panel that will allow you to select your Hosts file. Click the button
and navigate to the location of your saved Hosts file in the System
Folder.

After selecting the Hosts file, close the TCP/IP Control Panel and save
your changes.

You should now be able to connect to a location by the name you
indicated in the Hosts file.
