Outlook driving us crazy

Hey there,

I've thrown my hands up in frustration b/c no one in my company seems to be
able to help my boss. this has been an ongoing problem for 2 months & my
boss is going to have a cow, b/c he loses drafts of emails all the time.
Everyday around 4:30, Outlook freezes W/OUT fail! Sometimes he has email
windows open & sometimes he don't. Our helpdesk & pc support specialist at
my company have tried all kinds of things...including, giving him additional
memory, switching from windows 2000 to XP, updating old laptop to a new pc,
reinstalling Office itself, reinstalling Outlook, changing over to another
server. We thought it might have something to do w/ Norton possibly doing a
daily scan around that time but that isn't the problem. Just was wondering
if this sounded familiar to anyone or if someone had some insight as to what
the problem can be. BTW, there are usually no other applications open at the
time. I may not have provided enough information...if more is needed, please
let me know. thanks kindly

if it freezes every day at the same time you need to identify the
application that is causing it to freeze. change the time NAV does it's
scans and if you have anything else configured to run at about the same
time, disable it.

Use the Task Manager to inventory the running processes. When Outlook
freezes, check again and see if the list has changed. If that doesn't give
any clues, just before the time comes, boot the computer and, while logging
in, press and hold the Shift key (either one). This will tell Windows to
skip all the normal automatic startup of applications and give you a
relatively pure Windows instance. Then start Outlook manually and wait
until after the time passes. If Outlook doesn't freeze, you are guaranteed
it's one of the applications that he automatically starts. Begin to
eliminate them by removing them from the Startup program group and the Run
keys in the registry. The MSCONFIG tool can help with that. Click
Start>Run and enter msconfig in the Open field. Click OK.
