Outlook freezes windows

Kenji Horikawa

Hi,

I am trying to send an e-mail using Outlook 2003 with an attachment of PDF
file.
But after hitting the send button, all the windows freeze and cannot perform
any operations.

FYI, I get the following error message right after clicking "Send" button.
"The operation failed due to network or other communication problems. Check
your connections and try again."

To get out of this situation, I need to use the Task Manager to End the
OUTLOOK.EXE.

The following is my environments & setups:
Windows Server 2003 R2
Microsoft Office Outlook 2003
-Since I don't want to receive any email using outlook, I entered an
invalid incoming port number, so that I can only send out email.

Also, the PDF file is generated using Adobe PDF file, and all the processes
are done in the server, so there shouldn't be any connection problems... I
think.

BTW, this is intermitten issue, so it doesn't occur all the time when I try
to send out the email.

Thank you.

Kenji

How large is your PDF attachment and to how many recipients are you trying to send
this email to. Are you also scanning your outgoing emails with your AV

Hi Peter,

The file size may range from 10KB ~ 100KB, nothing too big.
The number of recipients range from 1 ~ 2 people.
And, yes, I have McAfee Total Protection Service on my server.

Thank you.

McAfee Total Protection Service is not meant to be run in the server environment. I
would disable the Service as far as email integration (scanning) goes and retest

I have a similiar intermiitent problem with sending emails that contain a
scanned pdf attachment. Based on Peter's reply I have checked and changed
some Trend Micro settings that were unique to this server. Thanks
