I am using Outlook 2003 and I am having a problem with it freezing that began
a few weeks ago. Here are all the details that I can think of. I would
greatly appreciate any suggestions.
1. I have Outlook 2003 loaded on a laptop. I have three accounts. Two are
POP3 accounts and one is an Exchange account.
2. When I am at work, connected to the Exchange Server, everything works fine.
At work, I connect to the Exchange Server via a LAN. The network is
conntected to the Internet via a DSL connection.
3. When I am at home and open Outlook, it freezes while downloading
messages. There is no rhyme or reason to which message it will freeze on when
downloading. Sometimes it will freeze while downloading the 1st message,
sometimes the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc. Also, if I remove one of the POP accounts,
it will freeze on the other. So the problem does not seem related to a
specific POP account. Furthermore, the problem cannot be tied to a specific
message. i.e. If I connect to the POP server(s) via webmail and delete the
message that it appears to be freezing on, it will simply freeze on the next
message.
4. I am able to use Outlook Express or Mozilla Thunderbird without having
this problem.
5. I encounter this problem while Outlook is in Safe Mode.
6. I am forced to kill Outlook (control-alt-delete)
7. I have downloaded and installed all available service packs for both
Windows XP Pro and Office
8. My virus scan (McAfee Total Protection for Small Businenss) is up to date
and I have no viruses.
9. I have run Detect and Repair in Outlook and this does not help.
10. This problem happens 100% of the time (at home only). I never have this
problem at work.
11. It is important so I will repeat it: For over 5 months I never had this
problem. I only started having it a few weeks ago. Nothing has changed in my
setup to warrant this.
So, this question that begs attention is: What is different between my home
and office. Obviously, I am not connected to the Exchange Server at home.
Could this be the culprit? How do I troubleshoot this further?
Please help!
