Outlook from Office 2003

R

Robert

My wife and I just bought two Dell laptops. They came with Office 2003 Trial
Version which we activated successfully via the Internet and Customer Support
via telephone. My Outlook allows me to send and receive emails and if I click
on Inbox Hotmail it shows me my mail in my hotmail account.

My wife hasn't been so lucky. When she tries to send an email with Outlook
she gets the following error message:

Task 'Hotmail - Sending' reported error 0x800CCCF6: 'The server responded'
Access to Hotmail via Outlook and Outlook Express now requires a
subscription. Please sign up at http://join.msn.com/general/Email

What can we do to resolve this issue? If mine works, hers should as well.
I'll await your advice...

Free Hotmail accounts cannot be accessed with Outlook or Outlook Express.
There was a time when you could and if you had it set up prior to Sept 2004,
then you're okay for now. If not, it's too late.

There must be another explanation. My wife and I have had our email accounts
with Hotmail since before 2000. There must be a reason why her Outlook is not
working with her Hotmail account and mine is.

Robert,

Did you ever use hotmail account with outlook before you bought these
new laptops? Did your wife ever use hotmail account with outlook before
the new laptops? You will find that your wife had never used it while
you have already used it. This is what JoAnn Paules is saying that "if
you had it set up prior to Sept 2004, then you're okay for now.

The alternative solutions are to use the email accounts from the
following:

http://www.aim.com (free aol web ased and OL/OE accounts)
http://www.yahoo.co.uk (yahoo account based in the UK; but .com account
based in the USA does not work with OL/OE)

It's not how long you've had the Hotmail account, it's how long your system
has been configured to access free Hotmail accounts. I can read two of my
accounts. The third has been set up for several years but because I didn't
set my system up to access it prior to Sept 2004, I'm out of luck. (The
account goes along with a volunteer position that I've only held since Oct
2004.)

Hello Guys

Thanks for your time and concern. I did use Outlook before September 2004,
but only once or twice to experiment. To be honest with you, my wife and I
never use Outlook and probably never will. We were just playing around with
things to explore.

I understand now what you are both trying to tell me. Fortunately, this
issue will not affect us at all simply because Outlook has never been a part
of our lives. It makes me feel better to at least understand what you are
saying.

Thanks so much for your help! You're the best.
