R

Ron

Outlook 2003 is full and I cannot file in subfolders.
When I try to delete I get an error box "messaging interface has returned an
unknown error. Restart Outlook"
Doesn't work. Any suggestions. Thanks

Explain what you mean by "full". How large is the .pst file and are you
using the .pst file that came with 03 or are you using one from a pre 03
Outlook?

Have you tried to run scanpst.exe?

Have you compacted your messages in Outlook?

Is the .pst file in the C drive or D drive?

And if you run the defrag for C is it able to defrag your .pst file?

M
No, the file is not defragmented.
Another curious thing is that if I move files from subfolders to the inbox,
I can delete them from there.
Thanks for more suggestions.

Empty Deleted Items and Junk E-mail.
Delete what messages you can (you said you can delete if you move to
Inbox).
Compact the PST file and re-run SCANPST on it.

After that...

Create a new Unicode PST file and move your items to that. Then set
that new PST file to be the default and delete the old one.

Thanks for the suggestions. When I moved >1000 old and large emails to the
Inbox and was able to permanently delete them, the error message from
deletion tries from the subfolders is gone and deletion seems to be working.
Looks like Outlook is now behaving normally. Thanks again M & Ben.
