Outlook goes offline when switching between wireless and wired networks.

Hello group.

I have a situation where an Outlook 2003 client is having problems
when moving between offices. In their office, they use a wired
connection and are able to get their email. When they move to a
conference room, they normally unplug their laptops and it
automatically switches to the wireless network. Unfortunately, this
results in Outlook going offline for a period of time (~5minutes)
before going back online.

The users have learnt to live with this as I figured it must have been
a licensing issue whereby Exchange would not let them back in until
the previous connection had either properly disconnected or timed
out. Is this a logical conclusion to have made?

What options do I have to rememdy this?

1. I have considered fixing their IP addresses when they are
connected via ethernet, and reserving the same IP address in DHCP for
when the connect wirelessly. At the moment, both wired and wireless
are on DHCP.

2. Fix both the wired and wireless IP addresses to be the same.
However, I can see problems with that configuration should the
wireless card be turned on when the laptop is still wired into
ethernet - that would be a support call for sure!

Any one had a similar situation and found a better way around it?

Cheers,
ak.
