Problem - Outlook hangs and causes other applications to hang even after
being closed. Windows Task Manager shows one or several Outlook processes
using 100% of the CPU activity.
Environment - Outlook 2002 (XP) with SP-2. This happens several times a day.
I have not yet been able to determine a pattern. The problem appears to
occur just as often, whether I am using my Wireless NIC or my standard NIC.
Although connected to the Internet, I am using Outlook offline, connecting
periodically to send and receive email. If Outlook or any other application
has stopped responding, then when I go to the "Processes" tab in Windows
Task Manager, inevitably one or several "Outlook" processes show up as using
100% of the CPU (this may be the case even if Outlook has been closed for
several minutes). If I shut down these Outlook processes manually, then I
regain access to my other applications, and Outlook will function normally
(for a while) when launched again.
Any ideas?
