Outlook hangs, freezes on corporate accounts

Been trying to find an answer to why outlook 2000 hangs when opening,
clicking on another e-mail, and or will not close. I work with the IT
department at my company and welcome any help!!. I set up new out of the box
Dell (xppro) computers and join them to the domain the usual way, setup
outlook correctly, and off to the races. When I logon as them I start outlook
and instant freeze. Some users including myself have to C-A-D to end outlook
because not responding.
We have Symantec running on the server (2000) with Exchange 2003 and mega
memory installed.
