Outlook hangs on receiving emails with Chinese characteres

I am using Outlook 2003. Everytime I receive emai with Chinese characters in
its subject line, Outlook hangs. I need to go to the webmail access provided
by my email services provider to delete that particular email so as to enable
the Outlook to receive the succeeding emails. What should I do to prevent
Outlook from hanging when receiving emails with Chinese characters in the
subject line?

We saw a case here recently where Outlook would hang with an attachment
that had Chinese characters in its name. You don't have any attachments
in the messages that make Outlook hang?

If it is really only the Chinese chars in the Subject line, then this is
very puzzling - I have never seen this before.

A few questions:
- do you run Outlook in Unicode Mode?
- what account type do you use (Exchange, POP/SMTP, IMAP)?
- is the message format always the same (Plain Text, HTML, RTF)?
- when you use webmail, can you see the messages' headers and determine
what encoding was used?

Sorry, I mis-typed my question. Actually, my Outlook hangs exactly when you
described, i.e. hangs with an attachment that had Chinese characters in its
name (and in simplified Chinese character).

What should I do to solve this problem?

Thank you.

The previous issue was never resolved because the poster stopped
replying. Two things to (hopefully) resolve the problem:
- You must run Outlook in Unicode mode; see the article I posted in my
earlier reply;
- The sender must send the message with a valid Chinese encoding (Big5
or GB2312/GB18030).

Thank you Pat. However, I am an individual Outlook user without any Exchange
server. How can I change my Outlook to run in Unicode mode?
