Outlook Hangs on Send from Word (2003)

I'm testing Office 2003, loaded on an XP machine, using
word2003 as the email client.

When I send either through an exchange account or a pop3
account (any send, as an attachment or not) Outlook hangs
and must be closed via the Task Manager.

Ideas?
